Top Ten Villain/Bad Guys We Love To Hate

d32b6-toptentuesday

This is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Since we’re free to choose the topic this tuesday, I’d like to talk about the bad guys. And since I wanted it to be more of an agreed matter, I asked some of my friend’s opinion about the subject HAHAHA. I asked a number of friends and what’s on this list are the ones mentioned twice or thrice.

7. Nolan Sorrento from Ready Player One (click to read review)

12279616

Sorrento’s a high-ranking official of the Innovative Online Industries or the IOI, he’s the head of the Oology Division that focuses on finding Halliday’s Easter Egg. Finding the egg would mean the possession of Halliday’s entire fortune including the virtual utopia called the OASIS that citizens have free access with. Obviously IOI’s pursuit is to get hold of the fortune and run the OASIS so they could monetize it so of course they will do everything in their means to win the game and find the egg. By everything, I mean EVERYTHING! And Sorrento, being a puppet of IOI is focused in getting the egg no matter what.

6. Jeanine Matthews from the Divergent Trilogy

Because she is a highly intelligent person, she is more rational than emotional. She’s a ruthless leader capable of doing unspeakable things to keep things in order.

5. President Snow from the Hunger Games trilogy

Another heartless and controlling leader. Panem alone was a disturbing world to live in and add him up, everything is just hell.

4. Bellatrix Lestrange from the Harry Potter Series

I HATE HER!

3. Joffrey Baratheon from A Song of Ice and Fire ( Game of Thrones)

I’ve never felt such euphoria over someone’s demise! okay, I know that just made me sound such a ruthless person but GOT fans will know. I know you will. If you don’t just read or watch it, you’ll get it.

2. Cersei Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire ( Game of Thrones)

I would love to strangle her with those blonde locks she’s got. Her beauty is poison.

1. Voldemort from the Harry Potter series

Need I say more?

We ended up with SEVEN Villains/Bad Guys that we love to hate. I think its safe to say that you agree with me on this right? But since we only have seven here, I’d love to know who else would you add up on the list!

So how about you? What topic did you choose? Feel free to drop a link on the comment section so we could check it out 😀 I hope you have fun reading and God bless!

Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Authors

d32b6-toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme by The Broke and the Bookish. Today’s topic is about the Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Authors!!!

I have listed out my all time favorite authors, tried narrowing it down as much as possible and it took me all the necessary comforting to come up with this list. So here it is:

J.K. Rowling

She will forever be part of every fiber in my being. She has greatly affected me and I will forever be thankful for that.

C.S. Lewis

Aside from the Harry Potter Series, I grew up with Narnia! C.S. Lewis brought me into a magical place that I will forever feel nostalgic with even though I was never there physically 😀

George R.R. Martin

A Song of Ice and Fire series is an intimidating read what with more than 800 pages (?) per book! But man, how greatly I admire the world created by Mr. George. His way of writing is just so detailed and descriptive you will just love those big books of his.

Rick Riordan

YES! YES! OF COURSE! I love the series he writes, it transports me easily into a more interesting and awesome world.

Suzanne Collins

She is the reason why I got stuck in the dystopian fiction genre for months. Like, literally MONTHS!  I came to bookstores looking for dystopian fictions to read because The Hunger Games Trilogy was so gripping and action-packed that I just got hook with anything like it.

John Green

Then we have the coolest, awesome and ever famous author of YA novels! The moment I grab hold of one of his books I instantly fell in love with his writing. It was insightful, humorous, honest, and beautifully unique! And the characters he creates, oh man! how I love everyone of them 😀

Rainbow Rowell

Okay, so aside from John Green, I turn to Rainbow Rowell when it comes to anything YA! I just love her characters, her writing, and everything in her stories. I cannot help but relate to most of them. 😉

Jane Austen

I only read Pride and Prejudice (but the rest will be read soon I am certain) and I cannot but one second not admire Miss Jane Austen’s way of unraveling her stories. Her writing is both fun and full of substance.

Harper Lee

I recently read To Kill A Mockingbird and it has just become one of my All-time Favorite Books. You guys were right and I cannot believe why I deprived myself with this amazing read. She is a great storyteller and very insightful. I feel like grabbing her book again and reread it. 😀

Paulo Coelho

This man has brought wonders to this world. I will not be afraid to say that he is one of the greatest writers that has ever lived. His books are a source of inspiration in this crazy world we live in. I will forever bring his books with me wherever I go.

Ready Player One: A Book Review

Ready Player One

Author: Ernest Cline

Publisher: Random House NY

Published on: August 2011

Genre: Science Fiction, Post-apocalyptic, Dystopian

Summary from Goodreads:

In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.

But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.

Review:

This is by far the coolest book I have laid my utmost attention to. Yeah “attention” because I listened to the audiobook format narrated by the awesome Will Wheaton. If you don’t fancy listening to audiobooks, then maybe Will Wheaton can change that. I mean, he did so much justice to this book, with his amazing narration plus the story… everything became a LEGENDARY experience.

So here’s a question?

Are you a GAMER? Because if you are, sweetie, you got to read this book. WHY? because this is THE DREAM! Imagine yourself living inside a video game. All you have to do is just log yourself in and voila you are inside virtual utopia. Now this book is about a dystopic reality and the only way of escaping this tragic world is by logging into the OASIS. Inside the Oasis, you can actually do stuff you do in the real world only in a whole new level. You can go to school,  join quests to upgrade your avatar’s level and collect various artifacts, meet virtual friends from all over the world, buy your own planet and make it your stronghold, play sports such as Quidditch and all those other cool stuff. So you see, this isn’t JUST book. It will be your refuge, your sweetest escape. So if you’re interested why don’t you start by picking this book up. 😉

Now, now this book isn’t intended for gamers alone, because you have to understand that I am not a gamer and still this book exceeded my expectations. This book feeds the geeky-ness inside me. From all those star wars references, to some of the best fantasy authors and books mentioned, to all those sci-fi stuff.

But hey, this isn’t just about the fun and games. There’s actually some serious stuff in here. Yeah sure, the premise of living inside the video game and doing all those awesome stuff is enticing but when you come to a realization that you aren’t actually living in a real world, you start thinking. This book, could actually become one of our future reality. What with all the technology enslaving us right now, we could basically end up in this kind of world. And that is something we shouldn’t ever hope for. Because by then, we’d be living in a reality, that is so messed up, damaged and cruel. If today you see a lot of people is suffering from hunger, witnessing the government do nothing a lot of times, experiencing all those bad effects of climate change, gradually losing faith in humanity and still everyone is in front of their computers or mobile phones then by the year 2044 it will be a whole lot worse! And even in this so-called virtual utopia, the ugly parts are just hidden. And a sad thing about this online refuge— it is not real.

This book  is a different experience. A different kind of dystopian fiction. It is a book that is fun, cool and awesome but it has something deeper in it. That by the end of the day, you realize how ugly a world could be and how cruel a person can become. I think it is safe to say that this book is bittersweet!

I gave it a 5 out of 5 stars in Goodreads
